Hornsby Heights Preschool acknowledges both the Darug and Guringai peoples as the traditional owners of the land where we learn and play. We strive to embed Aboriginal perspectives and practices in our everyday routines and programs, through spontaneous and intentional experiences.
Children
- We give each child the opportunity to develop in a warm, creative and supportive environment where each child’s safety, happiness, personal potential and differences are recognised and encouraged.
- We provide opportunities for small group experiences in science, music, maths, reading and writing.
- We recognise that every child learns best through play. Based on this we provide experiences which allows each child to acquire skills that enhance their positive social, emotional, cognitive, creative and physical development.
- We teach each child to respect diversity, to have an awareness for their environment and to actively practice sustainability at the preschool.
Families
- We maintain regular communication between educators and families regarding their child’s health needs, interests and welfare
- We have an open-door policy and encourage families to provide feedback, suggestions and opinions regarding our centre.
Educators
- Each of our educators are respected for their individual abilities, interests, skills and experiences.
- Our educators ensure they keep up to date with new knowledge and training.
- Our educators respond to each child’s needs and use a variety of materials based on the children’s interests.
- Our educators are aware of the varying structures of the families attending the centre and provide support in relation to the family stresses that may arise.
Community
We acknowledge and value the importance of the community for our preschool.
We invite a number of community groups to the centre to develop awareness, including the police, the ambulance, dentists and doctors.
We value and support students studying childcare and allow these students to experience working at the childcare.
